Creating a Sacred Space

Creating a space dedicated solely to your own well-being is one of the most positive things you can do to ensure that you are putting yourself first. Think of this as being Self-full, not selfish. If you have many demands on your time and energy it is all too easy for your intentions to care of yourself to slip further and further down your list of priorities.

Always remember that you cannot serve from an empty cup. If other members of your family, household or workplace need you and depend upon you, you may feel that it is your duty to put their needs first. Most likely, you actually want to give them everything they need, especially if you are caring for young children or vulnerable people. You owe it to them, as well as yourself to nurture and care for yourself on every level, so that everybody benefits.

Your sacred space can be any size and in any location, as long as you make it very clear that it is yours. For this reason it is best to avoid choosing any space that is shared with others. A corner of a room with a simple altar and a comfortable chair can work just as well as an entire room. What matters is how you create it, what you choose to put in it and your intentions for using it.

Clearing Your Space

The first thing you will want to do is to physically clear away clutter, clean the surfaces and floors and arrange any pieces of furniture into the easiest and most comfortable way to use it within your space.

Equally important is the metaphysical cleansing of the atmosphere, and this is where you may want to use either white sage or sound vibrations to really shake up the energies in the room, dispelling all negative vibes and encouraging a new, light, clean atmosphere for your new space.

Sage:

Make sure that any bundles of sage you buy are sustainably and ethically sourced. Light the sage within a fireproof bowl and blow out the flames once the herb is smoldering. Waft the smoke all around your space, repeating a prayer, mantra or intention for your space as you do so.

Open the doors and windows to let the smoke disperse, taking the negativity with it.

Sound:

Clear and cleanse the energies of your space with sound if you are drawn to this method. Use a singing bowl, bells, cymbals or your own voice to create a sustained and resonant sound for at least 5 minutes. The soundwaves will penetrate all of the corners of the room and re-align any stagnant or sick energies so that they are free flowing and positive.

Choosing the Right Crystals for Your Space

Above all else, when deciding which crystals you want to use in your sacred space, always let your heart and intuition guide you. You will be using this space to replenish your energy, to lift your spirits, to calm your mind and to nourish your soul. You may want to meditate regularly here, or just sit and daydream. You will want to place crystals around you that support you completely, so always go with your gut instincts and choose the crystals that have a “friendly” vibration.

Meditation

When you meditate you bring your mind to a quiet place where it can unravel any issue you are struggling with and leave you feeling calmer and more refreshed. You may also meditate regularly in order to connect with Higher Powers and to raise your consciousness.

Some crystals seem to be natural choices for meditating with, or for simply sitting peacefully. Your scared space will soon become the place you enter to refresh and rejuvenate yourself, so remember to cultivate and maintain an attitude of gratitude, smile as you enter, and enjoy taking deep, slao breaths as you relax around your crystals.

Clear Quartz

You cannot go wrong with Clear Quartz. It is such an excellent all-rounder and is especially good for filtering out distractions and helping to clear your mind.

Amethyst

This crystal can be found in so many beautiful formations, from carvings to large geodes, polished tumbled stones that are lovely to hold to rough crystals in their natural state, that you are sure to have a favorite specimen of this versatile stone. Amethyst is very efficient at clearing negativity from the environment and from your etheric body. It is protective, both physically and psychologically and will keep you safe when you are working on difficult issues from your past. It helps to create a strong connection with guides, angels and other worldly messengers, and will help you to connect with your own soul.

Selenite

This crystal has a gentle, nurturing, feminine vibration that is ideal for soothing frazzled nerves and bringing peace of mind.

Lepidolite

This beautiful pinkish gray stone has a special vibration for some people. If you feel drawn to it, place specimens in your sacred space to remind you that you are always truly and deeply loved. The energies of Lepidolite are especially helpful for calming anxiety and stress.

Black Tourmaline

You will want to feel safe and secure in your sacred space and this crystal is a good choice for creating this kind of atmosphere. It absorbs negativity like a sponge and creates a kind of protective shield around your emotional body no matter what may going on in your life. It will help you to stay grounded and soothe away your fears.

How Best to Use Crystals in your Sacred Space

Your space is an ideal place to experiment with creating crystal grids and mandalas. All you need is a flat surface, perhaps covered with a pretty cloth. Infuse your crystals with your intentions by holding them individually in your left hand and telling them what you need.

Place them in patterns on your cloth, or group them around you in any way that feels right to you at the time.

Remember to cleanse and recharge your crystals regularly, and end each session with a short expression of thanks, to the Universe, to your crystals, and also to yourself, for the excellent work you are doing.
